Willum Warrain means “home” or “place by the sea” in the local Bunurong language. Our association runs a gathering place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living on the Mornington Peninsula and beyond. We are located at 10 Pound Road Hastings. We are a place of hope and healing for our mob with a focus on cultural strengthening. To this end, we run culture-based programs for our Aboriginal community throughout the week (targetting babies, children, youth, women and men) though Fridays is a drop in day for the broader Peninsula community. We welcome non-Indigenous visitors and regard ourselves as a destination for reconciliation. Many school and community groups have visited us to learn more about Aboriginal peoples and cultures. We also run marquee events for Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week. Willum Warrain is delighted to be a partner of Balnarring Picnic Race Club via their Caring for Community program in 2020.
The Balnarring Picnic Racing Club continues its support of those affected by the recent devastating bushfires.
Our good friend and Club Member Neil McCormick, of McCormick Transport has generously offered to transport a load of hay from the Peninsula to Bairnsdale at no charge.
The hay will be sourced through the Peninsula branch of the Victorian Farmers Federation and again all of the hay has been donated. Already over 2000 bales of hay have been delivered to the bushfire and drought affected farmers.
We thank Neil for this very generous donation and if you would like to help in some way please contact Chris Jones at the VFF on 0438 896 018
