Brendan Woodman Memorial Trophy Race (1) Handicap 2000m

Brendan was a much-loved trainer here on the Mornington Peninsula who sadly passed away from cancer in August 2021.  He trained many winners but had a particular fondness for picnic racing, bringing the family along and making a day of it. 

Balnarring races holds many special memories and today his family and friends gather to remember the good times and all the ‘trendy’ shirts.

Tracey passed away on the 29 March 2016 at the age of 49. The youngest of 13 children born to Keith and Irene Wilson.  Tracey has 4 children Alishia, Krystal, Steven and Jenna, and is grandmother to 6; Zacariah, Jordan, Avaleigh, Lily, Conor and Hope.  Tracey is sadly missed everyday!

The Victorian Wakeful Club Trophy Race(3) Handicap 1200m

The Victorian Wakeful Club was established in 2001 by a group of like-minded women to encourage the networking and participation of women throughout all facets of the thoroughbred industry and was so named to honour the famous race mare Wakeful.  Members come from all facets of the racing industry including Breeders, Racehorse Owners and Administrators. The Club is a Not-For-Profit, run by a volunteer Committee and the proceeds from Their fundraising endeavors goes to support their scholarships, bursaries, Strappers Awards and help those in need within the racing community.

Frankston District Tigersharks welcome anyone over 35 to come down for a kick, fielding teams in the over 35’s over 45’s and Over 50’s in the AFL superules competition and are based out of Skybus stadium in Frankston. Training is once a week and games are every second Sunday during the season. If you want to know more you can find them in marquee in the members carpark.

Jacob Barker, known to his friends as the embattled war veteran, has seen off centuries of conflict, survived the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic and even managed to outlast his days as a tormented child chimney sweep in London to be here today. His husky voice and disfigured gait might reflect those years of turmoil but his youth was revived when he met his lovely bride to be.  

Today, in the Barker-Boal Bucks Blue Ribbon Open Trophy Handicap, we celebrate this welcomed union and wish our friend many happy and peaceful years to come.

Hillcrest Angels Maiden Plate 2000m

Moved by the tragedy at Hillcrest Primary School we dedicate our first race to the children who died on Thursday 16th December following the horrific jumping castle tragedy in Tasmania. 

Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones, school mates and teachers, and wider school community as well as those emergency services who attended the scene as first responders. 

The Balnarring Picnic Racing Club will donate $1,000 and encourages you to dig deep to help support the victims and families.

Harry Luke Fraser was foaled on this day in 2017 – and he is the prized colt out of Brendan and Vanessa Fraser, stabled here in Balnarring.  He has been bucking his brands off to be here today. 

Harry is the full brother to the exciting filly, Frankie Fraser. 

You will most likely find Harry today galloping around playing with this trucks and Lego.

Rod Geilman 50th Birthday Maiden Plate 1008m

Rod Geilman lives and breathes horse racing. He has been involved in racing since his first visit to a racecourse as a 1-year-old. Having grown up on country racecourses, he wrote out race cards, penciled and was the runner and baggy for his dad, who was a bookmaker in Gippsland. He has owned and still owns shares in racehorses, has visited racecourses around the world and a been a bookmaker in his own right. His passion for racing and particularly country clubs runs deep, something he is very proud of. Happy 50th Birthday Rod.
